magic rainbow milk experiment

magic rainbow milk experiment

  • plate
  • 1/2 cup – 1 cup milk
  • 1 drop of dishwashing liquid
  • 3 different colored food colouring
  • Cotton bud

Poor the milk onto the plate and place one drop of each of your colours into the milk, keep the drops close together.

Cover the end of the cotton bud in the dishwashing liquid and place straight down in the middle of the colors and hold in that position.

Watch the colours swirl around.

 How does this work

The fat and protein molecules in the milk are altered by the soap. This causes them to roll around. Once the soap molecules have mixed evenly with the fat and protein molecules in the milk the motion will stop. So keep adding drops of dishwashing liquid when the action slows down.
